Avive Clinic Adelaide, a new private mental health hospital, has topped out in South Australia. The milestone was marked at the CBD site on 27 August 2026 by Avive Health, developer Pelligra and South Australian Minister for Health and Wellbeing Blair Boyer.

Construction will now progress to the internal and clinical fit-out ahead of the hospital’s expected opening in mid-2027.

The facility will deliver 60 private mental health beds, psychiatrist consulting suites and dedicated spaces for day programs and outpatient treatment.

Avive Health co-founder and co-CEO Greg Procter said the hospital would expand access and choice for South Australians seeking specialist private mental health care.

“Avive Clinic Adelaide represents a significant investment in South Australia’s mental health infrastructure and brings us closer to providing patients, families and referrers with another option for high-quality specialist care,” said Procter.

“The hospital has been planned around the needs of patients and clinicians, with purpose-designed environments and connected care pathways that extend beyond an inpatient admission.

“Our aim is to support people throughout their recovery – from inpatient treatment through to day programs, outpatient services and ongoing care – while working closely with psychiatrists, referrers, health funds and the broader health system.”

The purpose-built hospital will include private patient rooms, dedicated therapy spaces and communal areas incorporating salutogenic design. It will also feature circadian lighting designed to support sleep and recovery, a patient gym and food services.

The hospital will provide psychiatrist-led care for adults experiencing conditions including mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder and substance use.

“The additional 60 private mental health beds being constructed by the Avive Clinic will ensure more South Australians have access to crucial mental health services,” said Boyer.

Avive Clinic Adelaide is being developed by Pelligra within its mixed-use health precinct, Hutt Street Health Centre, at 272–300 Wakefield Street. The precinct also accommodates health services including BreastScreen SA, general practice, ophthalmology, pharmacy, pathology, sleep medicine and allied health.

“Our investment in the Hutt Street Health Centre extends beyond the development outcome, being a testament to our focus on providing purpose-built facilities for socially important services such as the mental health care provided by Avive Health,” said Pelligra CEO Paul Pelligra.

“The project is the flagship and an extension of our ongoing revitalisation of the old Calvary Wakefield facility, providing a shared precinct for a broad range of critical acute and non-acute health and allied occupiers.

“Private health providers play a pivotal role in the health sector, and we couldn’t be more proud to be partnering with Avive Health to be building and developing their first facility in South Australia.”

The hospital is expected to open in mid-2027, subject to completion of construction and required licensing and accreditation approvals.
