Construction has been completed on a new Community Health space at Muswellbrook Hospital as part of the NSW Government’s $45 million Stage 3 redevelopment.

The new area includes consultation and treatment spaces for nursing care, child and family health care and allied health services.

Located within the hospital, the facility is intended to improve access to services and strengthen referral pathways between Community Health and other hospital services.

Local artists have played an important role in bringing the new area to life, with a range of artworks commissioned to create welcoming and calming spaces for patients, visitors and staff.

Ellie Hannon’s mural Water Ways has been installed adjacent to the new Community Health area, providing a calming visual outlook and contributing to a therapeutic healthcare environment.

Additional artworks from local artists are displayed throughout waiting areas, consultation rooms and corridors to reflect the region and enhance patient experiences.

Community Health services will relocate from the Wiedmann Wing to the new space in the coming weeks. Services will continue operating throughout the move.

NSW Minister for Regional Health Ryan Park said the facility will improve access to essential healthcare for people across the region.

“These integrated health services will help ensure people have access to child and family services, nursing care and allied health services more conveniently and closer to home,” said Park. “It’s fantastic to see the Muswellbrook Hospital redevelopment reach another important milestone, which has delivered a contemporary new community healthcare space.”

The milestone follows the opening of a new operating theatre suite in early 2026, which was also delivered under Stage 3 of the redevelopment.

Construction of a new sterilisation department is expected to begin in 2027.

Hunter New England Local Health District executive director of infrastructure, planning and sustainability John Barnard-Richardson said staff are looking forward to moving into the new clinical environment.

The project is being delivered by Health Infrastructure, in partnership with Hunter New England Local Health District and building contractor Richard Crookes Constructions.
