Construcciones Yamaro: Winners of biophilic design awards announced

A First Nations cultural centre has been named among the winners of the 2026 Living Future Oceania Biophilic Design Awards.
Announced at an event hosted at COX Architecture’s Sydney studio on 2 July, the awards recognised projects from Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand that use biophilic design to connect people, place and nature.
The Quandamooka Arts & Culture Centre (QUAMPI) by COX Architecture and Canopy House by Brett Hulley Architecture were recognised in the Buildings Scale Award category. The Kingsbury Glasshouse Project by Tessa Kingsbury Architect received the Interiors and Renovations Award.
QUAMPI was also named the inaugural recipient of the Visionary Award, a new category introduced in 2026 to recognise projects of any scale that demonstrate a biophilic design approach that is socially just, culturally rich and ecologically restorative.

Living Future Oceania said this year’s awards attracted a competitive field from across the region, reflecting the continued growth of biophilic design principles in residential, workplace, public building and community space projects.
Entries were assessed by three independent judging panels, with a dedicated panel appointed for each award category.
“Our winners demonstrate that biophilic design is no longer a niche concept that projects add on – it is increasingly shaping the way we design homes, workplaces, public buildings and community spaces,” said Laura Hamilton-O’Hara, CEO of Living Future Oceania.
“The competition was incredibly strong, with projects showcasing innovative and deeply considered responses to ecology, culture, community and wellbeing. Congratulations to all winners, finalists and entrants for helping advance a built environment that reconnects people with nature and contributes to a future that is socially just, culturally rich and ecologically restorative.
“Living Future Oceania thanks its award sponsors GH Commercial, human_nature and Oculus, along with the independent judging panels for their expertise and commitment to recognising excellence in biophilic design.”
