David Schurman, general manager of fleet at Kennards Hire, said it is a step forward for the business, increasing its capacity to service a rapidly growing market.

“We’ve seen a huge rise in requests from the civil contractors sector to be supported by one company across multiple project touchpoints, and that’s where Kennards Hire comes in,” said Schurman. “The acquisition supports this demand – it’s a clear sign of our continued growth.”

The acquired fleet includes 2.5 tonne double drum smooth rollers (including CAT CB2.7 and Dynapac CC1200 series), 12 to 14 tonne excavators, 9 tonne 4WD swivel tip dumpers, skid steers, forklift attachments, hydraulic breakers, specialist excavator attachments, large mud buckets and compaction attachments, and additional dozer capability.

Solution Plant Hire (SPH) sites in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney are being brought into the Kennards Hire distribution centres, with a new site opening in Tomago, New South Wales, to support the region’s growing infrastructure needs.

Chris Newton, director at SPH, said the business is proud of the reputation it has earned over its 13 years in the dry hire market and, as the industry continues to change, the sale of SPH to Kennards Hire will support its continued growth.

“We are excited to continue to support Kennards Hire in the future and would like to take this opportunity to thank our SPH team and clients – the last 13 years has been a great journey,” said Newton.

With infrastructure investment increasing across Australia, the expanded fleet will help meet demand.

The move will also see the launch of a new business unit for Kennards Hire and a shift in personnel, with Craig McMahon, previously area manager for NSW’s Central West, being appointed as the new general manager of earthmoving and compaction, which will sit under the organisation’s Specialist Solutions offering. A number of SPH employees will join the Kennards Hire team, bringing equipment and solutions expertise.

This marks Kennards Hire’s largest acquisition since 2012, with the Australian-owned and operated business continuing to invest in fleet expansion, people and capability to meet the evolving needs of the civil and infrastructure sectors.
