Following the award of the design and pre-construction contract in 2025, the ActivUs Alliance has commenced design and construction on the major rail works package of the $5.75 billion Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project.

The milestone reflects collaboration between alliance partners CPB Contractors, UGL, Acciona, SMEC and WSP, alongside the Department of Transport and Main Roads and Queensland Rail.

Glenn McIlroy, executive general manager for QLD, WA, SA and NT at CPB Contractors, said the company has a long history of delivering complex rail and transport infrastructure across Queensland.

“As the state prepares for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we’re proud to be laying the tracks to deliver increased rail network capacity, improved train service reliability and reduced end-to-end journey times,” said McIlroy.

UGL executive general manager projects Mick McCann said UGL brings experience in transport delivery and technology integration to support reliability and safety.

“We’re bringing our in-house engineering expertise in mechanical and electrical to deliver the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project with our alliance partners,” said McCann.

Jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments, the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project will increase capacity and service frequency between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, supporting projected population growth across the state.
