CIMIC Group’s CPB Contractors has been appointed by the Western Australian Government to deliver the early contractor involvement phase for the new East Perth Primary School.

The $165 million project involves building a four-storey vertical primary school for about 600 students from kindergarten to year six, on a site bounded by Horatio Street, Nelson Crescent, Waterloo Crescent and Gloucester Park.

ACS Group and HOCHTIEF chief executive officer and CIMIC Group executive chairman Juan Santamaría said CPB Contractors’ Perth-based building team would draw on expertise gained from delivering award-winning education facilities in Western Australia and beyond.

“This new learning space will be an important asset for the community and young families for many decades to come,” said Santamaría.

“This announcement marks an important milestone for CPB Contractors as it follows last year’s integration of Broad Construction and signals the strength of our local team’s four decades of experience delivering outstanding education facilities for WA communities,” said Spears.

The school design includes an administration building, a multipurpose hall, landscaped areas and grassed playing fields, alongside dedicated spaces for learning, play and community use. Provision has also been made for a future expansion to accommodate an additional 200 students.

As part of the early works, CPB Contractors will manage site preparation and earthworks, including demolition of the existing Queens Gardens carpark. The company will also collaborate with EIW and ARM architects to finalise the school design, advising on materials and construction methodologies.

The new East Perth Primary School is scheduled to open for the start of the 2029 school year.
