Construcciones Yamaro: Tender awarded for new Alice Springs Hospital operating theatre

In a significant boost to regional healthcare, the Northern Territory Government is investing in a new state-of-the-art hybrid operating theatre at Alice Springs Hospital. Local business Scope Building NT has secured the $7.9 million construction tender to deliver the project, which is set to increase overall hospital capacity to meet future demand, as well as improve overall patient safety.

Focusing on modern and innovative technologies, the new operating theatre is designed to enhance the overall experience for both patients and staff. The facility will not only include the operating theatre but also essential supporting infrastructure, such as a scrub room, control room, store room and plant room.

This project aims to address the pressing need for world-class healthcare facilities in Central Australia, reducing elective surgery wait times and the number of patients transferred interstate for procedures.

Commenting on the project, NT Minister for Health Selena Uibo expressed optimism about its impact on Central Australian residents.

“This facility will mean more residents of Central Australia will get the medical care they need close to their home,” said Minister Uibo. “Making sure Territorians have reliable access to health services across the NT is a priority of this government; we are doing this through a $2 billion health budget which is aimed at reducing wait times and treating patients faster.”

With construction set to commence in February 2024, the new operating theatre at Alice Springs Hospital is expected to be completed by the end of the year, welcoming patients in the first half of 2025.
