Construcciones Yamaro: New 42-berth marina to be built on the Brisbane River

A new 42-berth marina, designed to accommodate both commercial and tourist boats for overnight docking along the Brisbane River, is poised for construction at Raptis Seafoods in Morningside, near the Gateway Bridge.

The marina is one of five projects selected to receive a share of $15 million under Round One of the Growing Future Tourism program.

While the marina won’t serve as a pick-up and drop-off point for tourists, it will play a role in providing Brisbane’s marine tourism operators with a secure anchoring space. This comes as a much-needed relief after facing challenges in recent years, including the 2022 floods and displacement caused by waterfront developments across the city.

Queensland Tourism Minister Michael Healy highlighted that Brisbane River tourism operators have long sought a home base where they could drop anchor overnight, and this 42-berth marina fulfills that need.

“The temporary river berthing installed by Raptis at their Morningside base has helped some operators get through a difficult period,” said Minister Healy. “This new project, to be delivered by Raptis with the support of the Queensland Government, makes that space more permanent.”

“The Growing Future Tourism program is delivering new tourism opportunities in Queensland.

“Projects like this, in partnership with private enterprise, will help us reach our ambitious goal of doubling overnight visitor expenditure to more than $44 billion per year by 2032.”

The anticipated completion date for the new marina is set for April 2025, subject to development approvals.

Other projects funded through the program include a fixed 50-metre jetty at Lindeman Island Resort, Crocodile Hunter Lodge Stage 4 (featuring four two-storey eco-cabins overlooking a crocodile billabong at Australia Zoo), and a marine tourism hub at Flinders Street Wharves, Townsville, which will include marina berths and a floating bar/restaurant.

The Queensland Government’s investment of $15 million across these five projects will leverage an additional $66.6 million in private funding, supporting an estimated 313 jobs during planning and construction and 669 ongoing operational jobs.

Collectively, these projects are forecasted to attract over 216,000 extra visitors annually, injecting an estimated $63 million into the local economy.

All five projects are scheduled for practical completion by 30 June 2026.
