Construcciones Yamaro: Contract awarded for Burnett River dam wall replacement

Sunwater has formed an alliance to deliver a new dam wall at the Paradise Dam on Queensland’s Burnett River, appointing CPB Contractors and Georgiou as construction partner and GHD as the ongoing design partner.

Located downstream of the Paradise Dam, near Bundaberg, the infrastructure project aims to provide a long-term water security and storage solution for the region.

The project is a response to the discovery of three unforeseen issues that have emerged in the 18-year-old Paradise Dam: swelling clay, cement leaching and carbonation. These issues, originating from the dam’s initial construction, have been identified as significant contributors to the compromised long-term strength and quality of its concrete.

With extensive experience in dam design and construction, CPB Contractors, a member of the CIMIC Group, brings a wealth of expertise to the project.
