Construcciones Yamaro: Haslin uses Procore as a scalable tool to improve productivity
Australian-owned construction and engineering company Haslin Constructions has streamlined project delivery and improved productivity with Procore.
Founded in 1991, Haslin has over 30 years’ experience delivering complex government infrastructure and has safely delivered over $2 billion in civil and building works across the Eastern Seaboard. Known for its engineering expertise, innovative approach and collaboration with clients, the company delivers multi-disciplinary transport, water and wastewater, public domain and energy infrastructure that plays a vital role in shaping Australia’s built environment.
The challenge
Like many civil contractors, Haslin was feeling the strain of relying on spreadsheets and online file systems. The complexity and rigidity of using different tools slowed teams down, with information spread across various locations and difficult to manage consistently. It became clear that the company needed to bring all project information together in one secure, centralised digital platform.

The solution
Haslin business development manager Tim Kelly was tasked with finding a solution that would ensure consistency and enable the business to continue to scale. He and his team aimed for consistency.
“Before Procore, we did have an online file management system, and of course Excel was everywhere. Everything was done on spreadsheets, so we needed to tie these together to have consistency across the business,” said Kelly.
“The biggest frustration for myself was in the business management side – reporting and trying to get all the information together while collecting the data was a point of conflict.”
He said that one of the issues was pulling together piecemeal data from various sources into one coherent location.
“[Our data] just wasn’t centralised, and finding records or documents could be very difficult,” he said.
Project engineers at Haslin oversee every stage of delivery, from earthworks to concrete pours. They juggle planning, scheduling, logistics, resources, quality and cost, making it essential to have systems that keep up with complex project demands. Engineer Nikitha Shivakumar, who has worked on major projects including Haslin’s Sydney Metro upgrades at Canterbury and Lakemba Stations, experienced these challenges firsthand.
“The main challenges and frustrations that prompted us to adapt or review our systems were that we, as engineers and site teams, were delivering these large-scale projects without properly optimised project management tools, which were taking up more time and energy,” said Shivakumar.
“For project management offline, we were using spreadsheets and files, Dropbox, Microsoft Teams and the sharing system. The major frustrations with spreadsheets were basically the file sharing system between the subcontractors (and the client) and the limitations with using these outmoded systems, which was causing a lot of miscommunications and, frankly, double handling.”
Procore now fits seamlessly into Haslin’s day-to-day project workflows. The team leverages Procore Project Management Pro, Quality and Safety and Tendering, giving it a connected platform that consolidates the project lifecycle, from early procurement through on-site delivery and quality control. Shivakumar and her team use the platform to manage RFIs, inspections, correspondence, document revisions, cost tracking, quality registers and procurement comparison registers, all in one place.
“What stands out to me about Procore is essentially its simplicity,” said Shivakumar. “Procore Drive management tools – it’s one centralised or standard system where you can save all your documents, such as project documents, or anything that’s related to the projects. All these can be saved under the Procore management tools mainframe.”
By replacing manual spreadsheets and disparate file systems, Procore has made project information easier to access, update and manage across teams.
The results
With Procore, Haslin saw reporting efficiency improved by 40 per cent, project setup efficiency increased by 40 per cent, project closeout times decreased by 50 per cent and overall productivity increased by 25 per cent.
“Procore gives us confidence because we know it is scalable and it will be there to match our business growth,” said Kelly.
Procore delivers clear benefits across Haslin’s projects, including enhanced collaboration, document control, consistency and real-time visibility. The platform’s intuitive tools, such as the Action Plans tool, have streamlined workflows for inspections, test plans and project closeouts.
“Everyone has visibility of [project systems],” said Shivakumar.
Within Procore Drive, her team can manage cost tracking, quality registers and procurement registers, such as price comparison registers when onboarding subcontractors.
“What I’m describing is only about 10 per cent of what we do in spreadsheets, but Procore makes it much easier to update those files and save them back into the correct folders within the system,” she said. “That’s what I really like about Procore Drive. It stands out for how much simpler it makes document management.”
As Haslin continues to grow and expand its operations across Queensland and Victoria, Procore’s scalability gives the team confidence that the platform can support the company’s evolving needs.
“When the decision was made that we needed to find a solution, we looked at quite a few project management platforms, and we came across Procore, and I guess right from the start, the outstanding thing about Procore was that it was intuitive,” said Kelly.
“The advice that I would give other civil contractors is that they should bring Procore into their projects. It saves a lot of time for the engineers. Procore gives us confidence because we know it is scalable and it will be there to match our business growth.
“Visibility across projects has improved dramatically. Now we copy in the Procore project on all emails, so everything is searchable in one place. In the past, we’d have to go through individual email files to look for records. Now everything is in Procore, so we can search and everyone knows what’s happening and what’s going on.”
Shivakumar added: “Procore has helped me personally. I spend less time in the office doing paperwork and double handling and more time actually overseeing the works, planning, scheduling, sorting out design issues… because things change every day on site and it just gives me more time to keep the progress going safely without having to miss out on the site activities.”
