decided to continue with the presentation of some characteristics about other construction material: the concrete brick.
The concrete
brick is a construction material whose composition is based on the
Portland cement, sand, water and other additives. Usually, it is used to
substitute cast cement in the construction of walls, footings and other
structures.
Uses of the concrete blocks |
The concrete
brick can be usually find in standard size pieces which are rectangular
of 8 x 8 x 16 inch size (20 x 20 40 cm approximately), and typically
have about 3/8 inch (about 9 mm) less the specified measure because it is
necessary to leave room for the application of the mortar mix. The core concrete brick can be solid
or hollow.
The standard
concrete brick can be divided
into two or three varieties mainly. The corners of each regular brick extend
slightly beyond its front part to help hide the mortar on the
finished wall, while in the bricks for angles and finishing we do not find
these extended edges, thereby producing smoother appearance
intersections.
Units known as
Sash are pre-cut pieces to fit in
around jambs and windows, also to accommodate the doorframes. Face bricks have
a top layer which is designed to conceal the core, while the head
units are designed to fit on the top or bottom of the window opening.
