Construcciones Yamaro: Construction to start this year on new $900 million Melton Hospital
Construction on the new Melton Hospital will commence this year, with the Victorian Government naming the preferred consortium to deliver the landmark project.
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan and Minister for Health Infrastructure Mary-Anne Thomas announced that exclusive negotiations will begin with the Exemplar Health consortium to build the over $900 million hospital, which is slated for completion in 2029.
“We are getting on with the world-class hospital that families in Melton need and deserve,” said Allan.
The consortium comprises Capella Capital as sponsor and investor, Lendlease Infrastructure Investments and Invesis as investors, Lendlease as builder, and Honeywell and Compass Group as facilities and maintenance managers.
The new Melton Hospital will be delivered as a Public-Private Partnership, bringing together the private consortium to design, construct, finance and maintain the facility for 25 years.

Like the new Footscray Hospital, the Victorian Health Building Authority will oversee the project, and once completed, it will operate as a public hospital under the care of Western Health.
Preparations for the site’s utilities and services are already underway, and the extension of Bridge Road, connecting the hospital to Ferris Road, is nearing completion. Construction of the hospital is set to begin later this year, following the formal contract award.
The preferred consortium was chosen after a thorough evaluation process to ensure the best value-for-money outcome. The new Melton Hospital will be Victoria’s first fully electric hospital, designed to serve the growing outer-west communities of Caroline Springs, Rockbank, Melton, Bacchus Marsh and Gisborne.
Located at 245A Ferris Road, near Cobblebank Station, the hospital will offer 24-hour emergency care, at least 274 beds, an intensive care unit, maternity and neonatal services, mental health services, radiology services, outpatient care and teaching, training and research spaces.
“This is a significant step forward on our massive, fully-funded Melton Hospital project which will make a huge difference for local families when it opens in 2029,” said Thomas.
The project will create more than 2,400 jobs during construction and more than 3,975 direct jobs once operational. Upon completion, Melton Hospital will have the capacity to treat 130,000 patients annually.
