Construcciones Yamaro: Clare Quinlan: limitless ambition

Image
Melbourne local Clare Quinlan has worked in environmental roles for Tier 1 construction companies, established multiple businesses and today steers the success of her latest venture, Salus Workwear . Proving her ambition has no bounds, the zealous construction professional has moved from state to state and coast to coast completing projects for the likes of McConnell Dowell and Lendlease. She has juggled pregnancy and motherhood along the way, having to move house while six months pregnant for one project and again with her six-week-old and two-year-old in tow for another. But the construction industry wasn’t always on the cards for Quinlan. “Initially I wanted to be a marine biologist and so I completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne,” she says. “Unfortunately, there aren’t many jobs in pure marine biology that involve diving and collecting specimens, so I did some travelling and lived in England for a while before returning home in search of a career.” As lu

Construciones Yamaro:Concrete Reinforcement: The Engineering Principles Behind Reinforced Concrete Structures

Knowing the engineering principles behind concrete reinforcement can help contractors design a safe and efficient structure, form new techniques, and so on. Reinforced concrete is a widely used construction material that mixes the compressive strength of concrete with the tensile strength of steel reinforcement. One benefit of using this material is it is strong as it can withstand heavy loads and extreme weather conditions. It can also resist elements like fire and chemicals. Another benefit of reinforced concrete is it is cost-effective since its materials can be manufactured locally, reducing its overall costs. Reinforced concrete is likewise versatile, energy-efficient, and sustainable. Now, to ensure that all the benefits of reinforced concrete can be fully maximised, one should know its engineering principles. These principles, after all, can help design safe and efficient structures, maintain quality control, innovate new techniques, and so on. Design and Analysis of Reinforc

Construcciones Yamaro: Tantek 4D Successfully Manages Construction of Tallest Modular-built High-rise in the World

One of Tantek’s largest projects is a high-rise building on College Road in the Croydon section of London. The project will produce the tallest modular-built high-rise in the world with two towers: a 49-story tower (Tower A) and a 34-story building (Tower B)— including basements. To ensure successful project delivery, Tantek 4D wanted to simulate the construction of the high-rise to test not only the robustness of the developed schedule, but also the completeness of the 3D models. They wanted to clearly demonstrate the construction sequencing of the 2,000 modular units being installed on both towers. However, they needed to find software that could provide the visual capabilities and range of model interoperability required for this complex building. They also required software that would provide the highest 4D simulation quality while still allowing importation of several 3D model formats. Construcciones Yamaro: Could virtual reality be the future of construction training?

New training methods for construction workers have been tested in what’s said to be an Australian-first study into the effectiveness of training delivered using virtual reality. The three-year project involved a partnership of researchers from Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) and Next World Enterprise, with support from several registered training operators. The study assessed the effectiveness of construction training delivered via virtual reality (VR) as compared to conventional (face-to-face) training methods. CSQ CEO Brett Schimming said the study suggests VR may present a viable additional delivery method in future construction training. “Technological advances are changing the face of all industries, and construction is no different – CSQ is interested in understanding how these changes may flow through – both to new skill requirements and new approaches to the delivery of training,” Mr Schimming said.
