Construcciones Yamaro: Construction of Goodman’s Axis Alexandria facility complete
BESIX Watpac has completed construction of Axis Alexandria, Goodman’s innovative multi-level industrial facility in South Sydney.
Covering approximately 16,000 square metres of gross floor area and situated on a 1.69-hectare greenfield site in Alexandria, the carbon-neutral warehouse development marks Goodman’s first multi-level industrial facility in Australia.
Giovanni Polimeni, general manager for New South Wales at BESIX Watpac, underscored the project’s steadfast commitment to sustainability. Early in the design phase, the project team identified recycled steel as a key material that could be incorporated into the industrial facility’s construction.
“Axis Alexandria’s incorporation of more than 1,500 tonnes of recycled steel demonstrates our commitment to sustainable construction,” said Polimeni. “We’re proud to have achieved significant cost efficiencies while contributing to a more circular construction model.”
The construction of Axis Alexandria presented unique challenges due to the constrained site, imposing a six-metre proximity limit from the building to the site perimeter. To overcome these challenges, the project team adopted an inside-out construction methodology, involving meticulous planning to carefully lift materials over the steel structure into position.

Designed in collaboration with architects FJC Studio (formerly FJMT Studio), Axis Alexandria sets a benchmark for sustainability. A 410 kW PV solar array contributes to its carbon-neutral status, while the development prioritises environmental wellbeing through features such as superior air ventilation, natural light penetration and the use of sustainable materials.
Key delivery partners on the project included SBA Architects, Costin Roe Consulting Engineers, Affinity Fire Engineers, Ason Group (traffic consultants) and Site Image (landscape architects).
Axis Alexandria boasts 10 warehouses spread over two levels, offering units ranging from 1,000 to 7,000 square metres, a 36-metre-wide shared hardstand for vehicles and on-grade roller shutters for efficient warehouse loading.
