Skyway, a joint venture between BMD and CIMIC Group’s CPB Contractors, has been appointed to deliver enabling and landside airfield works at Perth Airport.

The project includes the construction of a new three-kilometre, 45-metre-wide runway and marks a step forward in Perth Airport’s $5 billion transformation, which aims to increase passenger capacity and improve operational efficiency.

Juan Santamaria, ACS Group and HOCHTIEF chief executive officer and CIMIC Group executive chairman, said the upgrades will support economic growth across Western Australia.

“Our expert team at CPB Contractors prioritises local employment, skills creation and sustainable construction, ensuring long-term value for communities,” said Santamaria.

The scope of works includes demolition of existing buildings and pavements on the site, including Grogan Road; diversion of existing utilities and stormwater drains; and ground preparation and earthworks involving placement of more than one million cubic metres of fill material. The contract also covers new perimeter security fencing, security systems and access gates, along with airfield perimeter, emergency and facility access roads.

Airfield pavements will be constructed across the runway, taxiway, shoulder and jet blast areas, supported by ground lighting, movement area guidance signs and pavement marking. The works also include low voltage and communications systems, electrical equipment rooms, and installation of airfield drainage and landscaping.

CPB Contractors managing director Jason Spears added: “CPB Contractors is a well-established leader in aviation infrastructure with more than 10 major works packages delivered in as many years, and I’m looking forward to seeing the team create a positive legacy for industry with our intelligent earthworks approach, unmatched safety record and award-winning paving and asphalt solutions.”
