South Australia’s Eastwood Private Hospital project has reached a major milestone with BESIX Watpac recently completing the external structure. To mark the occasion, BESIX Watpac joined Barwon Investment Partners and other key stakeholders for a topping-out ceremony.

Al Crosby, general manager for Victoria and South Australia at BESIX Watpac, expressed the company’s satisfaction with the progress on this critical project, which will help alleviate the demand for health services across the region.

“BESIX Watpac’s world-class expertise and in-depth knowledge of the detailed requirements and complex nature of health projects combined with our collaborative approach have been major factors in the ongoing success of this project,” Crosby said.

“This enables our teams to deliver certainty for our clients as we work through complex project requirements in collaboration with our delivery partners.”

Tom Patrick, head of Healthcare Property at Barwon Investment Partners, commented on the progress that has been made to date.

“This project is a significant investment into the healthcare services offered in the region and we’re delighted to see the hospital coming together,” Patrick said.

“The project includes state-of-the-art operating theatre facilities that will help reduce surgery wait times and provide patients with a wider range of healthcare options. Barwon’s investment into Eastwood Private Hospital will deliver a truly valued-based integrated healthcare model.”

Craig Bentley, manager for South Australia at BESIX Watpac, highlighted that the team has been proactive in engaging local subcontractors.

“Eastwood Private Hospital is estimated to generate $90 million in economic activity throughout construction,” Bentley said.

“The projects BESIX Watpac delivers are a legacy for the communities we operate in, and this extends to the high-quality infrastructure that is delivered through to creating opportunities for locals. We’ve engaged over 40 local businesses so far throughout delivery of this project.”

Over 8,300 cubic metres of concrete have been poured into the building’s structure, with the final pour completed earlier this month. With the external structure now complete, attention has shifted to the fit-out, which is currently progressing on all levels, alongside the installation of the façade.

Once complete, the state-of-the-art hospital will offer a wide range of medical services, including a six-theatre perioperative floor, a 51-bed ward, medical imaging and pathology.

BESIX Watpac is responsible for the fit-out of all lobby and corridor areas, as well as the ground floor and levels 3 and 4, which will house the perioperative floor and ward rooms. The work also includes the construction of a carpark, installation of all associated plant and equipment, support services, as well as the development of courtyards and external landscaping. The completed hospital will feature a café and retail space.

Scheduled to open in 2025, the hospital is expected to significantly ease pressure on the existing healthcare system.
