Construcciones Yamaro: Candace Garraway: Behind the blueprint

Candace Garraway, project architect at EJE Architecture. (Image: EJE Architecture) Candace Garraway discovered her love for drawing almost as soon as she could grasp a pencil. Today, as a project architect at EJE Architecture, she channels that passion into bringing buildings and spaces to life. For Garraway, the desire to pursue architecture has been a lifelong calling. From her earliest memories, she found herself captivated by the art of drawing buildings, often sketching out the structures of friends’ and relatives’ homes without yet understanding the concept of architecture. Encountering someone with such unwavering certainty in their chosen path from childhood is rare. But for Garraway, architecture isn’t just a career – it’s a natural and perfect fit. “I’ve always had a love for hand drawing, and I’m fascinated by the stories that buildings tell, reflecting the lives of those using them,” says Garraway. “After finishing high school, I tried to gain work experience at arch

Construcciones Yamaro: Coates keeps Muddy Creek canal dry for restoration

Coates’ water management solution. (Images: Coates) Coates Engineering Solutions has delivered a comprehensive dewatering and water treatment solution for the revitalisation of Muddy Creek, ensuring construction work stays on track. In November 2022, Sydney Water commissioned a consortium of engineering groups called Delivering 4 Customers (D4C) to revitalise Muddy Creek at Brighton-Le-Sands in south Sydney. Despite its name, the creek will become a thoroughfare of native flora and fauna for the suburb to enjoy, but not before extensive work is performed. This includes re-laying the existing concrete canal and installing new sandstone embankments, along with naturalised banks with native plantings, a new elevated pedestrian bridge, and a widening of the creek. To help with the refurbishment, D4C engaged Coates to design and implement a comprehensive water management solution. This comprised a tidal barrier and bypass pump system to prevent surface water from entering the canal

Construcciones Yamaro: Choosing the right temporary heating solution

Image
Coates provides pump and heat exchanger accessories for a temporary heating solution. (Images: Coates) On construction sites, sudden changes in outside temperature, failures in temperature control systems or increased heat demands may necessitate a temporary heating solution. According to Kurt Edwards, Power and HVAC manager at Coates , much of the support provided by Coates helps customers resolve these types of issues. “When customers are operating in temporary workspaces or with temperature-sensitive materials, temporary heating systems are often needed to help get the job done,” he says. “For example, most will know that chemical products produce heat as they ‘go off’ but these processes also require a suitable environment to get started.” “This is where heating systems can be used as a safety line to meet production deadlines.” Ventilation is also important in chemical applications, especially when fresh air and exhaust systems are required, as low outside temperatures can
