Construcciones Yamaro: Contractor awarded Mandurah Estuary Bridge duplication

After being named the preferred proponent in September this year, Georgiou Group has successfully secured the design and delivery contract for the Mandurah Estuary Bridge duplication in Western Australia.

The project aims to alleviate congestion and improve safety in the Mandurah and Dawesville communities by constructing a second two-lane bridge on the south side of the existing Mandurah Estuary Bridge. It will also include construction of a new four-metre-wide shared path to enhance connectivity and access to recreational activities for the local community.

Senator for Western Australia Louise Pratt said the bridge, used by more than 33,000 vehicles daily, has become a bottleneck for commuters travelling within the Mandurah and Dawesville communities.

“I’m thrilled with the progress of the project and look forward to the improved commute for locals when the second bridge is complete,” said Senator Pratt.

Western Australian Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said the over 40-year-old bridge was not designed to cater for the high volumes of traffic seen in the area today.

“Duplicating the bridge will significantly ease the congestion currently experienced on approach to the bridge and cut the travel times for the thousands of commuters every single day,” said Minister Saffioti.

Construction of the new bridge is anticipated to commence in early 2024, preceded by site investigations that are set to kick off before the close of 2023.

Georgiou Group boasts a significant track record in bridge construction throughout Western Australia. Noteworthy achievements include the design and construction of the award-winning Mandurah Traffic Bridge, completed in 2018. The company is also part of the alliance currently delivering the new Fitzroy River Bridge.

The Mandurah Estuary Bridge duplication project is jointly funded by the Australian and Western Australian Governments.
