Construcciones Yamaro: Momentum builds for new aged care facility in Camperdown

Major construction has commenced on a new $39.6 million aged care facility in Camperdown, Victoria.

Yesterday, Victoria’s Minister for Ageing Ingrid Stitt marked the milestone by breaking ground at the site of the upcoming facility, which will feature 36-beds over two storeys, replacing South West Healthcare’s existing Merindah Lodge at the Camperdown Hospital.

“It is important we take care of our older Victorians by helping them age with dignity, compassion and comfort – facilities like this in Camperdown will mean high-quality public aged care, when they need it and close to home,” said Minister Stitt.

“This new 36-bed facility will provide a home-like setting that focuses on independence and wellbeing, while enabling staff to continue providing high-quality person-centred care and support.”

The facility will showcase a dementia-friendly design, offering residents individual accommodations in single bedrooms complete with private ensuites. This environment is crafted to foster dignity, prioritise people-centred care and encourage independence. Utilising the concept of ‘small households’, the layout also includes dedicated kitchen, dining, lounge and break-out sitting areas. Additionally, the design enhances the working environment for staff, providing a more modern, efficient and safer workspace.

The new Camperdown facility is further designed to enhance community engagement and resident wellbeing, featuring new outdoor spaces aimed at supporting both the physical and emotional health of residents, while also promoting increased social interaction.

This thoughtful design means residents can ‘age in place’, allowing them to remain close to support networks and maintain family connections as their care needs increase.

Delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority (VHBA) in partnership with South West Healthcare and AW Nicholson, the project is on track to be completed by 2025.

The Camperdown aged care facility project is being delivered under the Rural and Regional Public Sector Residential Aged Care Services Revitalisation Strategy, an initiative to modernise ageing facilities which are home to some of the state’s most vulnerable older Victorians.
