Construcciones Yamaro: Contractor chosen for North QLD Mid-Term Refresh Program
The Australian Government’s Department of Defence has awarded the $111.2 million contract for the North Queensland Mid-Term Refresh Program across RAAF Base Townsville, Townsville Field Training Area and HMAS Cairns.
Awarded to CIMIC Group’s CPB Contractors, the contract includes the delivery of new and upgraded engineering services, building refurbishment works, and additional transit living-in accommodation.
CIMIC Group Executive Chairman Juan Santamaria said he is pleased CPB Contractors has the opportunity to deliver another important infrastructure upgrade.
“Our teams will work closely with Defence to ensure that the refresh program is delivered safely and without interrupting normal operations,” he added.

Department of Defence First Assistant Secretary Infrastructure Division, Security and Estate Group, Mr Dan Fankhauser said the program was an investment in the region and supported future Defence estate needs.
“The North Queensland Mid-Term Refresh Program ensures the ongoing sustainability of critical infrastructure in support of Australian Defence Force capability across the Townsville and Cairns region,” Mr Fankhauser said.
CPB Contractors has also committed to supporting the local workforce by offering entry level pathways for local job seekers and including trainees and apprentices in their workforce.
“Through the commitment to high local participation and apprenticeship targets, this will be a significant investment in the local economy,” added Mr Fankhauser.
CPB Contractors Managing Director Jason Spears said the company has successfully delivered a number of projects in North Queensland.
“We have a strong commitment to the region and will be working to maximise commercial and employment opportunities for local and Indigenous suppliers,” said Mr Spears.
The North Queensland Mid-Term Refresh Program is scheduled to be completed in 2025, with construction scheduled to commence in early 2023.
