A tender is now open for the installation of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital’s third CT scanner. (Image: Government of Western Australia) Two construction tenders are now open for works at Western Australia’s Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. One project will upgrade suites and other areas of the Neurological Intervention and Imaging Service of Western Australia (NIISWA) to enhance access to treatment. Based at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH), NIISWA provides specialist expertise including lifesaving care for brain aneurysms, vascular malformations, carotid disease and interventional stroke therapy. The second project will install the hospital’s third CT scanner and deliver associated works to support patient care. The use of CT scanning as a diagnostic tool has increased steadily over the past decade, with SCGH performing the highest volume of CT examinations among Perth’s tertiary hospitals. (Image: Stockland) Stockland has commenced construction on a logistics facility of nearly 40,000 square metres at the Yennora Distribution Centre, one of six intermodal terminals operating in New South Wales. DP World, which has operated the terminal since August 2023, will expand its footprint into the new building, known as Building 2. The company currently runs rail services to and from Port Botany and leases several warehouses within the estate. Stockland head of logistics development Craig Lenarduzzi said the new facility has been designed to meet the needs of advanced logistics operations now and into the future. “Until its recent demolition, the site was occupied by an outdated low-clearance warehouse originally constructed in the 1970s,” said Lenarduzzi. “Our vision for the new building will see a modern facility that targets a 5 Star Green Star rating and meets the future freight and w...

(Image: Plascorp) A new hybrid renewable power station has been constructed at Lynas Rare Earths’ Mount Weld operation in Western Australia. The project comprises four turbine generators, a solar PV farm and a battery energy storage system integrated within a wind farm. The scope of works supported the asset owner’s transition from diesel to hybrid gas and renewable energy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Reinforcement materials, including processed reo bar and stock reo bar, were supplied as part of the construction program. Plascorp supplied concrete reinforcing materials manufactured to tight tolerances to meet the project’s specific requirements. According to Jobs and Skills Australia , there are 142,200 qualified carpenters working in Australia, with females representing just 3 per cent of the workforce. This highlights critical skills gaps in the building sector and the need to attract more people to the high-demand profession. Brown, 19, and Turner, 20, discovered their interest in carpentry after completing work experience on building sites run by Brown’s father. This led them to study a Certificate III in Carpentry at TAFE NSW Dubbo, where they have begun forging a rewarding career path. Located at 4 Millrose Drive in Malaga, north of Perth’s CBD, the five-level building represents the fifth data centre Multiplex has been contracted on by the ASX-listed Australian tech giant. Stage Two of P1 Perth will double the data centre’s current IT capacity. The build is highly technical, with complexity added by working next to the operational building delivered in Stage One. Now that Stage Two of P1 Perth has reached its tallest point, Multiplex will commence fit-out of the building’s plantrooms, offices and new data hall. Future works include the fit-out of two more data halls, plus expansions to central plant and services infrastructure. Victorian Minister for Transport Infrastructure Gabrielle Williams and Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne last week joined more than 50,000 runners and walkers for a firsthand look inside the tunnel as part of the West Gate Tunnel Discovery Day. The modular propping and bracing system was designed to overcome tight site access, structural complexity and heritage constraints, enabling the new structure to be built.
